Winter Pest Guide: What to Watch For This Winter

Pests are seasonal creatures, for the most part. You won't see many wasps or ants in the dead of winter, just as mice are less prominent in the summer months. It's important to know what pests to look out for throughout the year. This winter pest guide is the first of our Seasonal Pest Guide series.

12 Pests of Christmas: Eight Bats A-Flapping!

🎵On the eighth day of Christmas, my PMP found for me ...
Eight bats a-flapping,
Seven stinkbugs reeking,
Six beetles bustling,
Five stinging wasps,
Four crawling ants,
Three bed bugs,
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights!🎵
There are few things better during the holidays than just hanging around at home, enjoying the warmth and coziness of a decorated home.

If you're cracking open cans of cranberry sauce and other goodies from the pantry this holiday season, be on the lookout for one of winter's most unwelcome pests -- beetles! Pantry pests, or stored-product pests, like beetles take up residence inside your stored foods and can snack away unnoticed for months.

Four crawling ants,
Three bed bugs,
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights! 🎵
You're cozied up on the couch, sipping cider, Bing Crosby serenading through the stereo, lights on the tree twinkling, fire crackling ... but what's that noise? Is it coming from inside the wall? Is it ... buzzing? Oh no! It's a winter wasp infestation!

Wasps, hornets, yellow jackets and other stinging insects are most associated with summer months, but these buzzing nasties can show up in winter, too.

12 Pests of Christmas: Four Crawling Ants!

🎵On the fourth day of Christmas, my PMP found for me ...
Four crawling ants,
Three bed bugs,
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights! 🎵
One of the best parts of the holidays is the sweets -- the cakes, cookies, candies and other sugary treats make the cold days feel much warmer.

12 Pest of Christmas: Three Bed Bugs!

🎵 On the third day of Christmas, my PMP found for me ...
Three bed bugs,
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights! 🎵
Waking up on Christmas morning to the surprise of presents is one of the best parts of the holidays. Waking up to the surprise of a bed bug infestation ... not so much! Bed bugs are some of the nastiest, hardiest pests out there, and nothing would add to the stress of the holidays like finding bed bugs in your house.

12 Pests of Christmas: Two Spiders Weaving!

🎵 On the second day of Christmas, my PMP found for me ...
Two black spiders,
And a rat chewing on my Christmas lights! 🎵
Rats aren't the only pest to worry about this holiday season. Picture it: it's Christmas eve, the lights are twinkling, cider is bubbling, bells are jingling, snow is falling ... and a creepy spider is crawling out of your Christmas tree! The last thing you want to encounter this holiday season is a winter spider infestation, spinning webs throughout your house.
