Eastside will welcome kids for a day of games, activities, pest-control education and more. It is a continuation of the family-focused ethos of Eastside, which includes fourth-generation employees and families that began as coworkers in the pest control business.
“We value the family tradition and atmosphere that we have here,” said Alex Altizer, CEO of Eastside Exterminators. “Our business protects families and homes, and we have that same level of commitment to our internal family.”
Rooted in Family
Ralph James Townsend, Jr. -- known as Jim – founded Eastside Exterminators in 1969, but the company’s roots trace all the way back to the 1940s. Jim’s father, Ralph Sr., helped form what became the Washington State Pest Management Association, and Jim Townsend ran Eastside until his retirement in 2000. Jim’s daughter Deanna and her partner Alex Altizer took control of the company at that time, and the two of them have expanded both the company’s size and its commitment to family.
“This industry has been a part of my life as long as I can remember,” said Deanna Townsend, who now works as President of Eastside Exterminators. “I’m really proud to continue that family tradition that my grandfather started.”
Altizer and Townsend’s daughter, Katelynn, currently works as an Inside Sales representative at Eastside. In Townsend’s office hangs a picture drawn by Jim as a young boy in the 1950s, where he says he wants to be “a exterminater” when he grows up.
On Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, Eastside will host eight kids for a full day of activities. Safety protocols prevent children from joining pest control technicians in the field, but Eastside headquarters will provide a fun-filled day for all its future pest management professionals.
